At the April 8 Taiwan Affairs Office press conference, a reporter asked: the United States will impose a high 100% tariff on imported pharmaceuticals. Although the DPP authorities claim they have secured preferential treatment, Taiwan is not mentioned on the list of tariff exemptions released by the United States. What is your comment on this?
TAO spokesperson Zhu Fenglian responded that the United States always follows “America First” and cares only about “American interests.” She said that more and more facts are leading people in Taiwan to realize that the United States’ coercive and predatory behavior does not operate on reason, and that the DPP authorities’ servile obsequiousness will not win them any pity. She added that the DPP authorities’ so-called “preferential treatment” is in fact U.S. bullying and exploitation of Taiwan, and represents the DPP authorities currying favor and pledging loyalty at the expense of Taiwan’s economy, concealing what she described as the DPP’s malicious intent to “seek independence by relying on the United States.”
