Taiwan Affairs Office: More and more Taiwan compatriots recognize that reunification will bring real, tangible benefits.

At the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office press conference on May 13, a reporter asked: Recently, a poll on the island showed that nearly one-quarter of respondents accept “peaceful reunification, one country, two systems.” Some commentators said this indicates that recognition of “one country, two systems” among people on the island is gradually rising, and that calls for peaceful reunification are growing louder. What is your comment?
State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Han responded by saying: Reunification is an unstoppable historical trend. “Peaceful reunification, one country, two systems” is our basic policy for resolving the Taiwan question, and the best way to achieve the reunification of the motherland. It is most beneficial to compatriots on both sides of the Strait and to the Chinese nation. More and more Taiwan compatriots have begun discussing the specific contents of a Taiwan plan for “one country, two systems,” imagining Taiwan’s prospects after reunification, and recognizing that peaceful reunification will create enormous opportunities for Taiwan’s economic and social development and bring real, tangible benefits to the broad mass of Taiwan compatriots. We will work together with Taiwan compatriots to create the great cause of national reunification and national rejuvenation.
