Jaime Miguel Ocon is an experienced journalist and was the lead defense reporter for TaiwanPlus, the premier English-language news channel in Taiwan.
He has covered pivotal events, including Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, China’s military drills around the Taiwan Strait, and former President Tsai Ing-wen’s meeting with U.S. Speaker McCarthy. He’s one of the few Americans to report from various military bases across Taiwan, documenting the country’s defense strategy and reform programs. His commitment to honest and comprehensive reporting has made him a voice in the field while building trust with Taiwan’s defense ministry and various policymakers in Washington, D.C.
Jaime moved to Taiwan in 2016 after receiving a government-sponsored scholarship to learn Mandarin Chinese under Stanford’s ICLP program at National Taiwan University. He received the Ministry of Education’s Taiwan Scholarship in 2017 to attend National ChengChi University and graduated with a B.A. in Diplomacy, taught primarily in Chinese. Upon graduation, Jaime was also awarded the 2021 Most Excellent Scholarship Student in Taiwan.
Currently, Jaime is a Master’s candidate in the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University and plans to specialize in Military Operations. During the program, he aims to leverage his experiences in the field to promote and contribute to the U.S.-Taiwan defense relationship.
