Taiwan Affairs Office: General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech pointed the direction for the development of cross-Strait relations.

At the April 15 TAO press conference, Chen Binhua said Xi Jinping’s April 10 meeting with KMT Chair Cheng Li-wen marked a new chapter in KMT-CCP exchanges and provided the “fundamental guidance” for Beijing’s Taiwan work.

Chen said Xi’s remarks outlined four points for cross-Strait relations: strengthening shared Chinese identity and culture; upholding the claim that both sides belong to one China; opposing “Taiwan independence” and outside interference; and expanding cross-Strait exchanges, integration, and public welfare.

He described the speech as historically significant and said it reflected Xi’s commitment to “peace for both sides, welfare for compatriots, and rejuvenation for the nation.” Chen said the TAO would implement Xi’s remarks by upholding the “1992 Consensus,” deepening cross-Strait exchanges, opposing “Taiwan independence” and foreign interference, and advancing peaceful development and national unification.
